Description

Join a local scientist to discover the hidden rivers of the Krka Valley where you can learn, swim, and explore away from all the tourists. We include the best of the Krka Valley that you won’t see on your average tour of the national park; you’ll visit two rivers, a waterfall, a lake so blue it looks fake, and a small beach with crystal waters where you can swim after lunch.

Our river circuit departs at 10 AM from our research center in Puljane and lasts approximately four hours. We can arrange a transfer for you to Split for a small additional cost, which would pick you up one hour before the tour start time. This tour requires a low fitness level, as most river systems are accessible via a short walk.

Itinerary

10 AM – Meet your guide at the Biota Biodiversity Centre in Puljane, Croatia. Please let us know if you require a transfer to make it to our Centre from Split.

10:15 AM – Depart Puljane in a private van to visit Cetina Spring, an extremely deep and cold lake whose mineral content makes it reflect a bright turquoise color. We will stop for photos at this stunning landmark and talk about the local karstic systems that create the lake.

11 AM – We will drive to the town of Knin, a historical village with the most important church in the region, which sits atop a hill overlooking the valley. Knin is home to one of the most beautiful hidden waterfalls in this region, which most tourists visiting Krka never see. We’ll stop to see the waterfall and the Spring of Krka, which is the source of the entire river system, before heading to lunch.

12 PM – Our staff will greet you for a delicious local lunch at our biodiversity research center, where you can eat in the garden with a view of the Krka River. After lunch, you’ll learn about the biodiversity of Croatia and our conservation work in this area, as well as having a chance to explore our science labs and get a glimpse at the life of a field biologist.

1:30 PM – As our final stop, we will take a short drive to the Zrmanja River, where you can swim in the clear water and enjoy the summer sunshine. When you are ready to head home, we will bring you back to Puljane, where you can continue the rest of your trip.
