The Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) course is the next step after receiving your OWD certification, giving you the opportunity to advance your skills and gain further underwater experience. This course is designed to boost your confidence and teach you to dive deeper and in new areas so you can explore further! This course will make you a full recreational diver and show you how to manage different aspects of more challenging dives.
You’ll work with your instructor to choose from a long list of Adventure Dives to advance your skills. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives.
During the Deep Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks, and time.
The other knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have – photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks, and many more.
Course Duration: 3-4 days with up to two dives per day to complete all five dives. Cost includes all certification materials.
Note: You must demonstrate your dive certification to participate in this course. The AOWD course is only available for participants in the Volunteer Placement program on Silba Island.
